Why Digital?
Digital art removes the cost of materials. No canvas, no paint, no studio space. You need a device, software, and a stylus. That's it. For young Bangladeshi artists who can't afford expensive art supplies, digital art is the great equalizer.
Free Software
Krita — the best free painting software. Full-featured, powerful brush engine, supports layers and blending modes. Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
MediBang Paint — lightweight and excellent for manga and illustration. Free on desktop and mobile.
GIMP — more of a photo editor, but capable for digital painting. Steeper learning curve.
Paid Software
Procreate (iPad only, one-time purchase ~$13) — the most popular digital painting app. Intuitive, beautiful brush library, excellent for both illustration and fine art.
Clip Studio Paint — favorite of manga artists and illustrators. Powerful vector tools and comic panel features.
Adobe Photoshop — the industry standard. Subscription-based (~$10/month). Overkill for beginners but essential for professional work.
Tablets
Wacom Intuos Small (~BDT 6,000–8,000) — the entry-level standard. Small drawing area, connects to your computer via USB.
XP-Pen Deco series (~BDT 4,000–6,000) — good budget alternative to Wacom. Larger drawing area for less money.
iPad + Apple Pencil — if you already own an iPad, the Apple Pencil turns it into a premium drawing tablet.
Getting Started
The tools matter less than practice. A great artist with Krita and a cheap tablet will outperform a mediocre artist with Photoshop and a Wacom Cintiq.
